Spyware And Adware : Finding Free Removal Programs

by Mark Walters on October 29, 2009

Spyware and adware infections are, unfortunately, an increasingly common occurrence. Should your own computer be infected with them, then at the very least they will be a nuisance and annoying; at worst, they could make your computer almost unusable.

One of the most common problems that you will encounter when you are experiencing a spyware and adware attack is that your usual browser home page has been changed to an unfamiliar website. Your computer will also be bombarded with pop up ads, sometimes even when you are not logged on to the net. Unfortunately, the annoyance doesn’t stop there.

If you start to experience any such problems, or, indeed, any other problems on your computer that you can not otherwise account for, then you must find a way to check your computer for spyware and adware, and make the necessary removals should any be found.

So, how does it get on your computer in the first place? Well, you may have visited unreputable websites, you could have downloaded infected files, or it is even possible that you have unwittingly agreed to their installation.

Ah, but I have antivirus software installed I hear you say! This though, is focused on keeping out viruses, worms and trojan horses, and not adware and spyware, though not entirely different, are sufficiently so to sometimes slip under the radar of antivirus software programs.

If you have old antivirus protection software, then it is quite possible that you won’t have any of the required tools for spyware and adware removal. Some of the top end antivirus software packages do normally have some form of adware and spyware removal included but, as they are a just included as a bonus, they are far from comprehensive.

There is no need to worry though as you can download free spyware and adware removal programs. You can use these to can your computer for unwanted adware and spyware. If it finds any then it will alert you to them and ask them what action you want to take, i.e. removal or quarantine. There are various company’s providing software such as this for free, but most computer experts agree that ‘Ad-Aware’ is currently the best one .

Additionally, in order to avoid clicking on the yes or ok option on pop up windows in the future and accidentally installing more adware or spyware, it is highly recommended that you install a pop up blocker. It is easy to install a pop up blocker, and its free! The MSN Toolbar and the Google Toolbar are both free tools that you can use to block any pop ups that might harm your computer with unwanted spyware and adware.

A final step that you can take is to only use secure web browsers. Firefox and Opera have inbuilt measures to fight against spyware and adware which Internet Explorer does not have.

These simple steps will enhance your defense against malware and make it safer for you to surf the net without worrying about your computers performance. Don’t delay in implementing this advice as the longer you leave it to act, the higher the likelihood of some serious problem arising, if it hasn’t already that is.
